Introduction:

In 2010, the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, University of Malaya will be hosting the 6th East Asia SIAM (EASIAM) Conference in conjunction with the Applied Mathematics International Conference (AMIC2010) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The EASIAM Conference is an annual meeting in the series of conferences. EASIAM provides a platform for exploration and application of mathematics to science, industry, engineering and technology in the East and South East Asia. Previous EASIAM meetings were held in Hong Kong, Sapporo, Xiamen, Daejeon, and Brunei. EASIAM is a section of SIAM, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), which promotes research that will lead to effective new mathematical and computational methods and techniques for science, engineering, industry and society. It also provides media for the exchange of information and ideas among mathematicians, engineers, and scientists.


Conference Objectives:


1) To provide a venue for the exchange of new ideas and interaction between local and international participants, updating with the latest research in mathematics, as well as interaction between the local and international participants.
2) To promote research and enhance collaboration among researchers and scientists
3) To stimulate publications in the areas of applied mathematics

Programs:

Registration, Accommodation and Visa:

All conference participants must register before 1st April 2010. The registration fee is RM900 (US$270). Full-time students may register for RM450 (US$135). The registration fee includes conference materials, lunches, tea breaks, and a conference banquet.

Preferred payment mode is via Banker's Draff made payable to the "Bendahari Universiti Malaya" before May 1st 2010.

To register and book the accommodation at the conference venue, please complete and e-mail us the attached registration form (doc) (pdf) to amic2010@um.edu.my before May 1st 2010. Accommodation for standard room is RM 230 per day.

LATEST

The registration for the conference and the payment of fee has been extended to 15th of May 2010. Please note that the current acceptable mode of payment is via BANKERS DRAFT or FULL PAYMENT during registration at the registration desk.

Paper Submission:


Both full papers and extended abstracts of 2 to 3 pages are accepted for submission. Papers and extended abstracts will be refereed. To be eligible for publication in the Conference proceedings, an accepted paper must be presented at the Conference by one of the authors. Click here for the template.

Update
The selected full manuscripts of the conference will be published in a proceeding under the responsibility of an Editorial Board AMIC2010 appointed by the Organizer, and high quality paper will be considered to be published in EASIAM Journal.


The official language of the conference is English. A full manuscript must be submitted in English language.

EASIAM Student Paper Prize:


Principal Guidelines
The EASIAM Student Paper Prizes are awarded every year to the student author(s) of the most outstanding paper(s) submitted to the EASIAM Student Paper Competition. This award is based solely on the merit and content of the student's contribution to the submitted paper.

The purpose of the Student Paper Prizes is to recognize an outstanding scholarship by students in applied mathematics or computing.

Requirements to enter the Competition
To enter the competition, each applicant
- must be a student of a country in the East or Southeast Asia;
- must not attend the oral defense longer than six months before the deadline of the competition submission;
- and must submit: a short vitae including his/her list of publications (at most two pages). The student's advisor must submit a letter that describes and evaluates the paper's contribution to the literature and the student's role in the publications.

Notification of Prize Winners
The EASIAM president will notify the recipient(s) around April 15th. 2010.
Each recipient is required to present his or her paper at the EASIAM meeting where the prizes are awarded.


Description of the Award
Each recipient of the EASIAM Student Paper Prize shall receive a
certificate and reimbursement of up to US$250 toward travel expenses. Up to four awards will be awarded each year.

HOW TO GET TO THE CONFERENCE VENUE (PNB DARBY PARK)
PNB Darby Park is located at the heart of Malaysia’s Golden triangle and is easily accessible through various means of transportation. It is situated about 100km (about an hour’s drive) from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) where many flights from major world cities fly into Kuala Lumpur, and Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) operated by AirAsia.

The venue is served by Putra LRT (Light Rail Transport) line and the nearest station is Ampang Park Station which cost about RM2.00 per person one way from KL Sentral where most means of transportation from KLIA and LCCT terminate. Ampang Park Station is about 100m (about 5mins walk) from the hotel.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is Malaysia’s main airport and it is about an hour’s drive by direct motorway link or 28 minutes on the KLIA Ekspress Rail Link (ERL).

Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT)
LCCT is located about 20km from KLIA and is operated mainly by AirAsia. There is a shuttle bus that connects LCCT with KLIA and is served by two operators Airport Liner and Nadi KLIA which costs about RM1.40 and RM1.50 one way respectively. The buses run every 20mins from 05:30 to 00:30 daily.

There are also buses that run directly from LCCT to KL Sentral which cost RM10.00 (one way) and RM14.00 (round trip). Further details can be obtained from http://www.lcct.com.my/bus_services.php .

KLIA Express
KLIA Ekspres is an express service that exclusively serves travellers between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the city. The journey takes 28 minutes one way and terminates at KL Sentral, the nation's main rail transportation hub. A one-way adult ticket costs RM35. (US9.21)

KLIA Ekspres trains run every 15 minutes during peak hours (0500-0900 & 1620-2200) 20 minutes during off-peak hours (0900-1600 & 2200-0000) (Journey: 28 minutes)

KLIA Transit
Not to be confused with the KLIA Ekspres, KLIA Transit is a high-speed transit service designed for commuters and airport workers. The entire journey takes 35 minutes, with 3 stops along the way, and terminates at KL Sentral.

KLIA Transit trains run every 30 minutes
KL Sentral - KLIA (1st train at 0533, Last train at 0003)
KLIA - KL Sentral (1st train at 0552, Last train 0100)
(Journey: approximately 35 minutes)

KL CAT
Located within KL Sentral, this modern airport terminal is an extension of KLIA. Check-in time is at least 3 hours prior to your departure. Once you've checked in at Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal (KL CAT), you will be issued your boarding pass and your luggage will be transferred through to your flight at KLIA. Currently available for all MAS, Cathay Pacific and Royal Brunei flights.

Taxis
A fast, safe and relatively economical way to get about, especially if you are a first time visitor. Make sure that the meters are on as soon as you get in and avoid negotiating fares upfront. Surcharges apply after midnight and during heavy rain.

Airport Taxis
Airport Limo (M) Sdn Bhd offers a 24-hour budget and premier airport taxi service to and from KLIA. You may purchase tickets at an official counter, situated just inside the exit doors of the arrival hall. Prices are fixed according to destination. The journey to Kuala Lumpur takes approximately one hour. Tickets are purchased at an official counter– the premier service is RM92.40 (US$25.00) and the budget is RM67 (US$19.00).

Putra LRT
The PUTRA Light Rail Transit (LRT) service offers a direct connection between KL Sentral and the Ampang Park LRT station.

KL Sentral
The nation's main rail transportation hub for Kuala Lumpur's rail systems which include KLIA Ekspres, KLIA Transit, KTM Intercity, KTM Komuter, PUTRA LRT and KL Monorail. KL Sentral is also served by other transportation modes such as city buses, feeder coaches and taxis and is one stop away from the historic original railway building.

KL Monorail
With a total of 11 fully elevated stations, each between 600 to 1000 metres apart, the KL Monorail service is a cheap, convenient and enjoyable means of sightseeing within the busier parts of the city. The locations of the stations are especially ideal for leisure and shopping. Trains run from 6am to midnight, every 2-5 minutes during peak hours and 5-10 minutes off-peak.

STAR LRT
The STAR line is an elevated, driver-operated rail service. Operating from 6am until near midnight, it offers another cheap and convenient means of getting around the city while taking in the sights. Prices for a single trip ticket range from RM0.70 to RM2.90, depending on the distance and destination. The train frequencies also vary, arriving at stations every four to six minutes during peak hours (between 7.30am to 9.00am on Mondays to Saturdays and between 4.30pm and 7.30pm on Mondays to Fridays). At all other times, train frequencies are reduced to a train every six to ten minutes. The train service starts at all stations at 6.00am. The last trains from Ampang and Sri Petaling to Sentul Timur leave at 11.30pm whereas the last trains from Sentul Timur to Ampang and Sri Petaling leave at 11.30pm.

VISA
Visa application must be made at any Malaysian Representative Office Abroad and for countries that do not have Malaysian Representative; application can be made at the Embassy or British High Commissioner's Office.

Visitors from Chennai and New Delhi, India or Shanghai, China only can apply online through I-Visa System.

Nationals of all ASEAN countries except Myanmar do not require visa for a visit of less than one month. For a stay exceeding one month a visa will be required, except for nationals from Brunei and Singapore.

Citizens from most COMMONWEALTH countries including USA, except Cameroon, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are allowed to enter Malaysia without a visa for a visit not exceeding one month.

Citizens from other ASIAN countries such as Japan and South Korea will not require visa for a stay of less than a month. Other countries such as Iran, Iraq, Macao, Palestine and Syria will require a visa if the length of stay exceeds 14 days.

AIRPORT INFORMATION

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
KLIA , a spectacular feat of architecture combines futuristic technology, Malaysian culture and the rich, tropical splendor of its natural resources. Located in the Multimedia Super Corridor and close to the administrative capital, Putrajaya, the airport is approximately 75 km south of Kuala Lumpur. Drive time to the city centre is approximately 1 hour.

Arrivals
International flights arrive at the Satellite Building and the aero-train brings passengers to the International Level of the Contact Pier. Other international, domestic and mixed flights arrive on the Domestic Level of the Contact Pier.

Entry Formalities
All visitors must posses a valid passport or other internationally recognized document with a minimum validity period of six months beyond the period of intended stay. A passport is also necessary for travels between Peninsular Malaysia and the East Malaysian states of Sabah & Sarawak.

Travelers Declaration Form
In addition to filling out a disembarkation card, all visitors must fill out a Travelers Declaration Form when entering/ leaving the country to declare the amount of currency brought in and taken out. A resident is allowed to carry Ringgit notes not exceeding RM1, 000.00 into and out of Malaysia. He or she is also allowed to carry foreign currency notes (including travelers’ cheques) not exceeding the equivalent of RM10, 000.00 out of Malaysia. A non-resident is allowed to bring in Ringgit notes not exceeding RM1, 000.00 and any amount of foreign currency into Malaysia. When departing, he or she is allowed to carry out Ringgit notes not exceeding RM1, 000.00 and foreign currency notes (including travelers cheques) not exceeding the amount brought in. The Travelers Declaration Form must be handed to the immigration officer together with the disembarkation card and passport.

Transportation
Taxis use a coupon system and taxi booths are available upon exit from the Arrivals Hall. There is a choice of an airport limousine service as well as a budget taxi service. Airport coach services to the city are operated by Airport Coach Sdn Bhd are available one floor down from the Arrivals Hall. Airport Coach Services Private vehicle car parks are connected by the Skybridge on the Station Mezzanine Level.

Airport Departure Tax
For international flights, airport departure tax is RM40 per person; for domestic flights, it is RM5.00. Only children below 2 years old are exempted.

Narcotics
The trafficking of illicit drugs in or out of the country carries the mandatory death sentence.

CLIMATE
The characteristic features of the climate of Malaysia are uniform temperature, high humidity and copious rainfall. Winds are generally light. Situated in the equatorial doldrum area, it is extremely rare to have a full day with completely clear sky even during periods of severe drought. On the other hand, it is also rare to have a stretch of a few days with completely no sunshine except during the northeast monsoon seasons. It is normally quite hot in June with a maximum temperature of ranging from 32 - 36°C, while the lowest temperature during the night ranging between 22 - 25°C.

CURRENCY
The official national currency is Ringgit Malaysia (RM) and is convertible. The exchange rates applied in Malaysian banks, official exchange offices, money changers and hotels may vary. All the major credit cards are accepted in Malaysia in places displaying the emblem at the entrance. Most restaurants, cafés, shops and petrol stations accept major credit cards.

SHOPPING
The opening hours of many shopping complexes are generally from 10.00-21.00 from Monday to Sunday.
